Nestled in the
heart of Fulham Broadway is 1492 Latin Fusion - the name harping
back to Columbus' historical voyage. An enticing Brazilian restaurant
with warm orange walls and iron chandeliers, live music and a good
range of cocktails, including the old favourite, Caipirinha.
We went as part
of a group and were therefore given exclusive use of the room downstairs,
which was ideal for thirty of us. This did mean, however, that we
didn't get to soak up the atmosphere of the main restaurant and
bar. Also, because we were in a group, we were provided with a set
menu containing either a vegetarian or meat option which was quite
limiting and not completely inspired.
I started off
with the fish cakes and spicy salsa. They were fine, nothing special
but good enough. This was followed by chicken and rice which was
heavily spiced and had a real kick to it! The vegetarian option
was a vegetable quiche which I was assured was very tasty. The coconut
pudding had a good flavour, but its thick consistency didn't go
down well as there seemed to be a lot of it left over on most people's
plates! The house wine was good, and the Caipirinhas and Mojitos
delicious.
Overall the
service was good, although as we had a set menu, when one of the
guests asked for the chicken without the spicy sauce, the waitress
was not accommodating!
1492 has lots
of potential. The set menu for groups could be improved, however,
I'd like to return to try the a la carte menu and enjoy the Latin
jazz played in the main restaurant upstairs.
