'A
hint of mint', 'cheeky dandelion', and 'great legs' were just some
of the descriptions that came out of Latin Quarter's first event!
About 30 people took part in the wine tasting extravaganza which
explored the old and new world of wine in a sophisticated and fun
atmosphere.
We learned the
finer techniques of tasting, as Tom, our connoisseur, taught us
how to appreciate the colour and the bouquet of the wines, before
allowing us to satisfy our desire to drink the delights of the vine.
Terms such as 'lacrima di Cristo' (or the 'legs' to you and me!)
were explained and a brief introduction to what climates and conditions
make a good wine, was given.
After the first
four wines, participants in teams, were put to the test to see how
much they really knew with a blind tasting game. The 'educational'
part of the evening had certainly got the creative juices flowing
in some who became suddenly passionate about their abilities to
identify the unmarked bottles!
It was a fun
night which left people feeling confident about the difference between
a Sauvignon and Riesling or even a Tempranillo and Cabernet! We'll
be sure to do it again.
